In a recent conversation with my dear friend Suki Zoe (healer and colon hydrotherapist), we returned to a subject we’ve spent many hours on: health rules. We laughed to the point of tears. I, too, fall prey to trends and well-worded advertisements (since as we know, it’s not only what you say but how you say it), but some of the information the media attempts to fill our heads with is not only unfair; it’s simply wrong.

Suki brought up: Avoid Salt:

We both love salt and for good reason. Salt can be very healthy but there is good salt and bad salt. Good quality salt like Himalayan or sea salt can help your thyroid and your metabolism and even balance out your pH level. In fact, a pinch of good salta dded to your water can help keep you hydrated. We both say YES to salt.

Then we came up with: Eat Animal Protein With Each Meal.

Suki is in fact a vegan and has been for many years. She’s pretty much raw as well. I’m mostly vegetarian but do eat animal protein sometimes. Americans are obsessed with protein. Vegetables, grains, nuts and other plant-based foods are filled with protein. A salad with avocado and a corn tortilla is a perfect well-rounded meal, with balanced protein. Take a break from meat sometimes and give your body a breather. Both Suki and I are very healthy looking and feel fantastic.

Drink Milk:

We are the only culture that drinks cows milk as a beverage after childhood. Most other cultures have milk only in coffee or tea, or consume it in the form of yogurt or ice cream. With all the other varieties of milks to choose from, like hemp, almond or rice, for example, why choose a milk that is altered so much and has so many chemicals in it?

I love the phrase: All Natural

This means nothing. Anyone can label anything “all natural,” but it doesn’t need to have any sort of certification. Be careful what you’re buying, and if you are looking for organic, make sure it says “certified organic,” with the green seal.

And lastly, Suki came up with: Use Canola Oil

There is no such thing as a canola. Canola oil is rape-seed oil, originally meant to lubricate steam engines. This oil is highly genetically modified and its best use is for biodiesel cars, not human consumption.

Try this: Coco-sesa Smoothie

  • 1 C Tempt milk
  • 2 Tbs cacao powder
  • 1tsp carob powder
  • Large pinch of cinnamon
  • Handful of ice
  • 1 Tbs tahini

Put in a blender on high and blend until smooth.
